Domaine de la Vougeraie, Clos de Vougeot Grand Cru 2018
Succulent and supple, with fine-grained tannins and “super floral” aromatics, it delivers a heady rush of red and black fruits, forest floor, and sandalwood, its “ample mid-palate concentration” supported by invigorating freshness. It’s only now beginning to reveal its true character, with many more years of positive evolution still ahead of it.
It’s a vineyard so special they built a wall, or clos, around it: Clos de Vougeot, the majestic Grand Cru parcel in the tiny Burgundian village of the same name. As Burgundy aficionados are aware, the breathtaking Clos de Vougeot covers about 120 acres, occupying a perfect position on the region’s fabled “golden slope.” Jean-Charles Boisset and his sister, Nathalie, created Domaine de la Vougeraie in 1999, but their winemaking heritage reaches back much further—to their father, Jean-Claude, who acquired his first Burgundy vineyard in 1964. The Boissets organically farm just under four acres of vines in Clos de Vougeot, producing fewer than 500 cases of this thrillingly pure, complex Pinot Noir treasure.
The ultimate blue-chip collectible!
