Checkerboard Aurora Cabernet Sauvignon Diamond Mountain 2017
Aurora Vineyard is nestled in a small valley midway up Diamond Mountain on a large knoll located at an elevation of 1,200 feet. The knoll projects off the mountainside, giving the vineyard full Southern exposure and open light from the East and West and protection from Napa Valley's summer fog. This vintage is a masculine beast of a wine. Notes of coffee, cocoa nibs, red and blue fruit. Although big on the palate it’s elegant on the palate and finishes smooth with silky tannins.

Unicorns are rare magical creatures only found in dreams and fairytales. Unicorn wines on the other hand, like Checkerboard Vineyards, are only found in the best restaurants and retailers in California. Hidden on Diamond Mountain this small property with only 12 acres planted, delivers expansively rich but well-balanced wines. The state-of-the-art winery started in 2006 with Martha McClellan at the helm. She’s an alumna of some of the finest first-growth Napa wineries; Harlan, Sloan, and Vineyard 7&8. Her precise specifications and careful guidance set the standard for this youthful cult winery.
